Gramvousa Balos day Cruise

A great trip for any visitor to Chania is the mini-cruise to Gramvousa and Balos!

Our trip starts from your hotel or a nearby location with our bus. Our destination is the port of Kisamos. Once we arrive at the port, you will board the ferry for the cruise. The boat leaves the port at 10:30. One hour later you will reach the small island of Gramvousa. The ferry stays on the island for two and a half hours. At the top of the island is the castle of Gramvousa. built by the Venetians on some steep cliffs to act as a fortress to protect the island, today it offers visitors a panoramic view of the astonishingly blue waters of the Cretan sea. You can climb up the path to the castle if you wish, or stay on the beach for a swim.

The boat leaves the island of Gramvousa at 13:30, heading for the stunning lagoon of Balos… The trip is short and lasts only about 20 minutes. The boat arrives in Balos at 13:50 and stays for two and a half hours*. Words can’t do justice to the wild beauty that awaits your eyes when you arrive in Balos. The white and sometimes pink sand, the turquoise, warm and shallow water, the sky-high cliffs surrounding the lagoon. All these amazing elements come together to create a heavenly landscape that you will want to return to again and again!

The boat departs at 16:30 for the port of Kisamos. On board and throughout the cruise, you can enjoy your meals in the ship’s self-service restaurants, where traditional Cretan dishes are served. You can also visit the ship’s bar. You will arrive at Kisamos port one hour later. Our bus will be waiting for you to take you back to your hotel.

*Due to new environmental legislation, the ferry cannot dock directly on the beach. You will have to walk about 10 metres in water with a depth of 1 – 1.5 metres and a rocky area beneath you.
